VALIANT VISIONARIES
In the long dark shadows of Table Mountain
many Cape Town communities
are fighting for their lives
and the right to live with dignity
and food security.
COURAGEOUS COMMUNITY MEMBERS
Driven by this very real and urgent need to keep Cape Town’s destitute communities from starvation,
we are on a mission to provide
every child
every community
every family
Not just with a daily meal
but with something far greater than that – Food Security, and the faith that grows from knowing that tomorrow will always provide.
THE START OF SOMETHING AMAZING
In April 2019 we were struck by a very personal realisation…
Most of the women and children attending Revolutionary Yoga’s community classes
With such loyalty and devotion
would arrive on empty bellies
only to return home to the same fate.
Our yoga community was starving.
And yet every week they would come to yoga
just to nourish their bodies
in the only way
available to them
This broke our hearts. But not our spirits. And so the idea for a free food kitchen was born.
It didn’t take long for Roseline, Pamela and Adrian, along with many motivated community members, to set up the first Free Food Kitchen in Lotus River.
And as with all ideas, born of great need and raised by even greater community spirit, the Kitchen soon became a model and inspiration for more Kitchens to rise up and serve more poverty-stricken communities in Khayelitsha, Hazendal, Phillipi, Lavender Hill, Smallville, Rondevlei and Hanover Park.

It’s not acceptable in any society that our most primal basic need of food is not met. In the absence of the economic system providing food security, it is incumbent on every community member to alleviate starvation by serving food wherever they find themselves. It breaks my heart to witness extreme poverty and starvation.
SHANTELLE MINNIES
Smallville FFK Cook
I live in Smallville an informal settlement the unemployment numbers are 100% so I cook for the kids to ensure that they have a meal every day.
NASEEBA PETERSON
Hazendal FFK Cook
Hazendal is a drug infested place. The majority of the people using drugs neglect their children. And it’s very sad to see many of the children not having something to eat for most of the days & weeks. So, to be involved in this food kitchen is a blessing.
Monica ROBERTS
Hanover Park FFK Cook
While working in the community, as a Home Base Carer, I discovered that many elderly people were in a difficult situation looking after their grandchildren with no money to feed the children or themselves. This is when we decided to start contributing ingredients to make one big pot of food. We could no longer afford the ingredients during Covid-19 lockdown and by God’s grace we were able to get support from Free Food Kitchen. It is a blessing to our starving community.
ROCHELLE DICKSON
Lavender Hill FFK Cook
It has always been a dream of mine to feed the elderly people and children in my community. I saw the need. There are many unemployed people & I always said if I had the help or money I would do it. My heart goes out to the kids in the community & I thank God for this dream come true to feed the
ROSIE FIKISWA
Khayelitsha FFK Cook
In 1992 Rosie and her sister Tandy started feeding the children in their community in, not knowing where the food was going to come from. Today the kitchen feeds 350 meals, mainly children! Their faith, courage and love for the community kept them going day in day out. When we met her in 2009, Rosie hadn’t had a day off in 29 years! In the last few years donations have become scarce. Many soup kitchens have closed or are barely hanging on. Often Rosie runs out of basic supplies like rice or gas for the stoves.
